$25 DIY Laundry Room Makeover

I have lived in my little house for almost a year, and I love a lot of things about it, but one thing I don't love is the laundry closet. It's connected to the car port, it is very small, and it is extremely dingy-looking. So, finally, I decided it needed a makeover. But first, a quick tour of how it looked when I started.

Like I said - dingy and run-down looking. Certainly not somewhere you want all your clean clothes coming from.

So, I decided to give it a little touch-up. There were a few things I had to consider. First, this is a rental, so I couldn't make any huge permanent changes like painting, building new shelves, or disconnecting the big gray thing on the wall and installing it elsewhere. I was also working with very little space, and I wanted to keep my budget pretty low. So I went to WalMart and the Dollar Store, and rooted through the stash of craft supplies lying around my house.

The supplies I ended up with:
2 rolls wood-grain patterned contact paper - $2, Dollar Store
2 woven baskets - $1, Dollar Store
1 roll red paisley patterned contact paper- $5, WalMart
1 red steel beverage dispenser - $14, WalMart (this was my splurge item, not crucial for this project, but it matched the red contact paper perfectly, so I couldn't pass it up).
Hot glue gun, Canvas, Paint - all supplies I already had at home from other projects
So, in total, this project cost me $25 and about 2 hours, which I was pretty happy with.

I used contact paper for the shelves and floor, which is nice because it stays on well and is easy to wipe clean, but it isn't permanent, so when I move it can be removed. I used the beverage dispenser to hold the liquid soap, and I used the baskets to organize the rest of my laundry supplies. I also painted a canvas to hang over the gray sprinkler box - I used red to match the shelves, and I painted laundry on a line, along with the title of a great country song (Suds in the Bucket) to stick with the laundry theme.

Here are some before and after pictures, so you can really see the difference:

There you have it! It turned out to be a nice easy project for a Sunday afternoon, and I'm happy with how much brighter and fresher the room looks now. How do you like it?
